3160 & 1/2 Knob Hill Court: A Playhouse

Situated in a grove of bamboo, on a hillside overlooking Eugene, this was Hope's first solo project in architecture.

This playhouse was commissioned by two grandparents who take care of their young grandson Anthony, full-time.  They wanted to build a place for their grandson to go with his friends, to listen to music, and have his own space.  They wanted it to be a space he could use throughout his childhood, and beyond.  They also needed the design to be something they could easily build themselves, on a budget,  that would tie in with their house.

When Hope met with their family, she found that the only requirements from Anthony were that we include a secret access hatch, and a porch.

The design incorporated these requirements, as well as built-in furniture in the 'secret' upstairs area.
Hope was playful, in the design of this playhouse, nestling it in the middle of bamboo, to allow Anthony to have private space, but yet offer him a sanctuary in nature.  She was also able incorporate an easily-accessible 100 sf tool shed into the project too (for grandpa)!
